LaGuardia Airport Two

So, something about all these portholes makes me think the NYC airport can be declared "mid-century." Or, as they say, Modernist. (Emp on the ist.)

Deco Apartments

This seemingly ratty block of apartments has somehow survived (for now) just footsteps away from the Historic Building Holocaust happening along the Fort Lauderdale Strip. (Note the capital 'S'.)

This here aging bit of concrete displays that Deco styling that flowed into what is called Streamline Moderne.

Observe the porthole windows. It's the nod to the nautical that's the tell.

Other Deco elements: the overhang above the door, and the flourish above that, which gives it just a touch of verticality.

I also fancy the corner windows. And that wonderous relic of Old Florida -- jalousie panes on the door.
